Legal professionals rely on Tenthliner, the tenthlining tool built for fast, accurate, court-compliant formatting. What is tenthlining?

Why Tenthliner

Built for legal professionals, not adapted from a generic PDF tool.

From tenthlining a single affidavit to compiling a full record of appeal, Tenthliner formats pleadings, affidavits, and court bundles to Court of Appeal, High Court, and Supreme Court line-numbering standards, automatically.

No converting first

Upload Word, Excel, JPG, PNG, scans or PDFs straight into tenthlining, merging or e-filing. Conversion happens automatically along the way, so you never convert first.

One-click court bundle presets

Record of Appeal, Trial Bundle, Bundle of Pleadings, Authorities, or Affidavit/Exhibit, numbered to Court of Appeal, High Court, and Supreme Court conventions automatically.

Build bundles your own way

Assign files to named slots, Pleadings, Exhibits, Index, and Tenthliner merges, numbers, and paginates them in one run.

Free automatic e-filing splits

Bundles over the court’s volume limit (500 pages, or 150 for the Supreme Court) or the 50MB e-filing file size split into volumes with a cover page each, continuous numbering and roman-numeral front matter, at no extra cost.

Exhibits labeled and certified

Affidavit exhibits get auto-numbered labels plus Commissioner-for-Oaths certificate text.

Rules straight from the practice directions

Our defaults follow the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court practice directions, paragraph by paragraph.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tenthlining is the practice of numbering every tenth line of a legal document in the right-hand margin, restarting the count at the top of each new page. It's a formatting requirement under Kenyan court practice directions, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court, for pleadings, affidavits, and court bundles, and it makes documents easier to reference during hearings.

Tenth lining (also written as "tenthlining") refers to numbering every tenth line of a legal document in the right-hand margin. Kenyan courts require this so that judges, attorneys, and clerks can quickly cite specific lines during proceedings. Tenthliner is a tenthlining tool that automates this process so you don't have to do it manually. Read our full guide to tenthlining for the legal basis behind the rule.

Yes. Line numbering restarts at the top of every page, so line 10 on page 1 and line 10 on page 2 both show the number 10. Page numbers are tracked separately in the corner, so you always know which page a given line belongs to.

Upload your PDF and Tenthliner gets to work immediately. By default, line numbers are added at every 10th line with page indexing enabled, the most common court requirement. If your filing has different needs, you can toggle page numbering, or enable additional formatting options in the settings before processing. You can also upload multiple documents at once to handle an entire bundle in one go.

Tenthliner accepts PDF, Word (.docx, .doc), Excel (.xlsx, .xls), JPG and PNG files, including scanned and handwritten documents. Anything that is not already a PDF is converted to a PDF automatically when you upload it, with no separate step, so you can tenthline, merge or split a Word pleading or a phone photo of an exhibit without opening another tool. Images are fitted to A4 and compressed so the result stays small. Each file can be up to 50MB, matching the per-document upload limit of the Judiciary's e-Filing System used by Kenyan courts.

Yes. Tenthliner supports batch uploads so you can process multiple documents in a single session, saving you time when preparing large court filings or bundles.

No. Once you upload your document, processing happens on our servers in the background. You can close the tab, shut down your device, or switch to a different device entirely. Log back into your account from anywhere and your processed document will be waiting in your history, ready to download, for up to 6 hours after processing completes.

Your original uploaded document is deleted from our servers immediately after processing. The processed output is kept for 6 hours so you can re-download if needed, then permanently deleted. Legal documents are sensitive and we treat them that way.

Yes. Every credit purchase comes with an eTIMS-compliant invoice, making it easy to account for the expense whether you are a solo practitioner or part of a larger firm.

Every account gets 100 free pages to tenthline each day, no credits needed. Once you go past that daily allowance, credits cover the rest at a flat KES 3 per page, where 1 credit processes 1 page and credits never expire. If you regularly process more than that, the Unlimited Monthly Pass (KES 3,500 for 30 days) covers unlimited pages instead of buying credits. No credit card required to get started.

100 pages a day, on every account, no card required. That allowance resets automatically every day, so it's there whenever you need it, not a one-off amount you use up and lose.

Not until you exceed your 100 free pages per day, that allowance is free on every account, no credit card required. Credits only come into play once you go past it, at a flat KES 3 per page, or you can switch to the Unlimited Monthly Pass if you regularly process more than that.
